Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the effectiveness of PRP injections with corticosteroid injections in treating patients suffering from plantar fasciitis. The study aimed to identify which treatment provided better outcomes.

Key findings:

  • Both treatments were effective in reducing pain and improvinng function.

  • PRP provided greater pain relief and functional improvement at three and six months.

  • PRP may promote healing, while steroids primarily reduce inflammation.

Limitations:

  • Differences in PRP preparation and administration methods.

  • Some studies focused only on short-term outcomes.

  • There is a need for more high-quality, long-term randomized controlled trials.

Despite the higher cost, PRP could potentially offer a more effective long-term solution for chronic plantar fasciitis compared to corticosteroids.
