In a recent study published in Foot & Ankle International, Ramlawi et al. examined the outcomes of MIS Tailors bunionette surgery without hardware fixation in the largest group of patients to date, consisting of 111 individuals. Click here to access the report, “Percutaneous Fifth Metatarsal Osteotomy for Bunionette Deformity Without Fixation or Strapping: A Retrospective Study.”
The study marks yet even more promising data on MIS TB surgery which appears to lend itself to:
· Equivalent/superior patient outcomes
· Lower complication rates
· Less cost to the healthcare system
In an era of cost containment and increasing scrutiny by government and third-party payees; this topic warrants further consideration and research.
My question to all readers: Why not embrace a paradigm shift where the patient, provider, facilities, and payees all win?
